Community Cinema

This month's installment of Community Cinema touches on a watershed moment in American history. Beginning in the late 19th century extending into the 1920's, African-Americans were forcibly expelled from their homes in cities and towns all over the United States. In this month's film, Banished, director Marco Williams tells the story of the hardships endured by the expelled and their descendents as they revist the land of their ancestors.

Your Community Connection

Since its inception in 1980, WHUT has worked to not only provide its viewing community with programs that are educative and empowering, but also to reach out into this community hands-on, with activities and events that aid in the community partnerships, the promotion of education for youth and healthy living.

Independent Producer National Funding Source Guide

WHUT recognizes that Independent producers are a vital creative force in providing programming to public television and the national PBS system.

In co-operation with the Independent Television Service (ITVS), we participate in an initiative that helps independent producers enter into production partnerships with public television stations. LINCS (Linking Independents and Co-Producing Stations) offers up to $100,000 of production funding from ITVS in support of station/independent co-productions.

ITVS guidelines for applying to LINCS (including application deadline and pointers on building a partnership with a station) can be found on the ITVS Website at http://itvs.org/producers/lincs_guidelines.html, or call ITVS at 415-356-8383 ext. 270 for further information.

Please send show proposals for a possible submission to LINCS to: WHUT, 2222 4th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
