Updated 10:30 p.m. EDT Officials revised upwards the number of people killed and wounded in Wednesday’s shooting at Fort Hood. Three people were fatally shot and as many as 16 were injured during the shooting, which is being described as a soldier on soldier incident. The shooter, who was reportedly undergoing an assessment for post traumatic stress disorder, took his own life bringing the total dead to four.
The Associated Press reports that the shooter’s identity is known, but that few details have been released so far:
Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, also identified the suspect as Ivan Lopez. But additional details about the gunman were not immediately available.
Updated 7:30 p.m. EDT One person is dead and 14 others injured in a shooting at Fort Hood, a Texas Army base in Killeen, Texas, a senior U.S. defense official told the Associated Press.
Directorate of Emergency Services on the base said it has an unconfirmed report that the gunman was dead.
President Obama gave a statement in Chicago on Wednesday night.
