Film Screening & Discussion: In The Name of Your Daughter

Hosted by Department of African Studies at Howard University and Help for Underserved Communities – HUC, USA. The film is a documentary about the fight to end female genital mutilation in the Mara region of Tanzania, which is in the north of the country. The documentary focuses on the brave actions of the young girls who resist being cut, and the activists who run safe houses for the girls to find shelter. In addition to highlighting the struggles of the girls, the documentary looks at the work of activists like Rhobi Samwelly with Hope for Girls and Women, who works with local activists and law enforcement to give these girls a safe place and to save them from being cut. The screening will be followed by a post film discussion.

Price: $10 for adults/ $5 for students
All proceeds will be given to the Hope for Girls and Women safe houses.
