August on WHUT: Culture, Community, and Summer Stories That Matter

August on WHUT brings together powerful storytelling, cultural celebration, and community‐centered programming that reflects the voices and stories shaping the DMV and beyond.

From Black Business Month features and music‐driven pledge programming to documentaries, local stories, and new drama premieres, WHUT’s August lineup invites viewers to stay informed, inspired, and connected.

Throughout the month, WHUT continues its commitment to education and cultural amplification—highlighting stories that resonate across generations while creating space for reflection, discovery, and community engagement.

Celebrating Black Business Month

August kicks off with a focus on entrepreneurship, legacy, and economic empowerment during Black Business Month.

On Sunday, August 2 at 11:00 AM, the Sunday Special: Black Business Month presents a mix of local and national programs highlighting the impact of Black‐owned businesses and the communities they serve.

Throughout the month, additional local programming—including Legacy Series: Black Georgetown—airs beginning Monday, August 17 at 6:00 AM, with continued morning features spotlighting Black business stories and local voices.

Music Takes Center Stage During Pledge Week

WHUT’s August pledge drive runs August 8 through August 16, bringing audiences a lineup filled with music, nostalgia, and cultural celebration.

Highlights include:

• Kings of Music (Pledge Special)
Saturday, August 8 at 9:00 PM and encore Wednesday, August 12 at 8:00 PM

• A full day of music programming on Saturday, August 15 at 3:30 PM, featuring artists such as The Commodores, Jimi Hendrix, Luther Vandross, Raye, and Aretha Franklin

• Additional music‐focused programming continuing through the close of pledge on Sunday, August 16

This stretch of programming celebrates the timeless impact of Black music while offering viewers opportunities to support WHUT’s mission.

History, Identity, and Untold Stories

August programming also dives into stories that connect past and present through culture and history.

• Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War
  Sunday, August 9 at 2:00 PM and Thursday, August 13 at 8:00 PM
  A powerful look at Black Americans’ fight for freedom during the nation’s founding

  A story of leadership, legacy, and the transformation of Atlanta through the Olympic Games

On Sunday, August 23 at 11:00 AM, the Sunday Special: Back to School prepares students and families for the new academic year with informative and engaging programming.
