A Historic Gathering at Howard University

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated hosted its 57th National Convention on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., drawing over thousands of people. The convention celebrated 112 years of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

Founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was established to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. Since its inception, the Sorority has grown to over 1,000 chapters worldwide and remains rooted in its core values of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

Women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated have been at the forefront of civil rights, education reform, and public health initiatives for over a century. From marching in the 1913 Women’s Suffrage Parade to leading voter registration drives and advocating for mental health awareness, the Sorority continues to be a powerful force for change.

During the 2025 convention, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated inducted eight extraordinary women as Honorary Members which is an honor reserved for those whose lives reflect the Sorority’s mission and values:

  • Queen Latifah (Dana Owens) – Grammy-winning artist, actress, and cultural icon

  • Donna Brazile – Political strategist, author, and former DNC Chair

  • Danielle Brooks – Acclaimed actress and advocate for Black women in the arts

  • Fawn Weaver – Entrepreneur and founder of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey

  • Janice Bryant Howroyd – Founder of the largest minority woman-owned staffing firm

  • Jackie Joyner-Kersee – Olympic gold medalist and philanthropist

  • Swin Cash – WNBA legend and sports executive

  • Toni Townes-Whitley – Tech executive and champion for digital equity

These women now join the ranks of distinguished women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, continuing a legacy of excellence, leadership, and service.
