November Book Buddies After-Glow:
A Day of Kindness, Empathy, and Tiger Tales
Warmth, community, and connection were the main themes of the November Book Buddies
gathering, which was the ideal prelude to the holidays. We explored the world of Daniel Tiger's
Neighborhood this month, focusing our efforts on compassion and empathy, two of the show's
most significant components. Here is a recap of all the fun we had during our November event!
Mess Free Finger Painting Fun
Mess-free finger painting was one of the day's highlights. Children and families loved being able
to feel the colors flow beneath the plastic as they mixed, swirled, and created little masterpieces
all without having to worry about cleanup! The paint and paper were sealed within a Ziploc bag.
This simple setup kept hands (and clothes!) clean while yet giving kids a sensory-rich, creative
method to express themselves
PBS KIDS & WHUT Giveaways
No Book Buddies meetup is complete without a little surprise! Thanks to PBS KIDS and
WHUT, families went home with themed giveaways that extended the learning (and the smiles)
beyond our session.
This month’s Book Buddies session highlighted just how powerfully stories and play can support
children’s social and emotional development. We’re grateful to all the families who joined us
and helped create such a positive, engaging environment
A Daniel Tiger Day: Learning Through Play
We kicked things off with a read-aloud from Daniel Tiger’s: Daniel Chooses to Be Kind,
focusing on how young children can practice kindness in everyday moments like sharing toys,
using gentle words, and showing empathy when a friend feels upset. Throughout the session,
these themes came alive through hands-on activities designed especially for little learners.
Sharing Activity With a Stuffy
Using a cute stuffy, little ones were encouraged to exhibit compassion in a straightforward and
enjoyable way with this exercise. After receiving a plush animal, each child was gently urged to
see if they could share their new buddy with another child or their grown-up. Children were able
to interact with new friends while practicing the fundamentals of kindness, sharing, observing
others, and feeling comfortable through this activity. They later used this same stuffy as
inspiration to color a matching printable version, bringing their paper friend to life with markers,
crayons, and creativity
