OFFICIAL RULES FOR BLACK WOMEN SOAR
2026 CAREGIVER CONTEST

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. THIS CONTEST BEGINS ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 17, 2026, AND ENDS ON OR ABOUT MARCH 8, 2026 (THE “PROMOTION PERIOD”). VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. ONLY RESIDENTS OF MARYLAND, VIRGINIA, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (THE “TERRITORY”), 18 AND OLDER ON THE DATE OF ENTRY, AND WHO MEET THE ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BELOW, ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE AS A NOMINATOR & NOMINEE. HOWARD UNIVERSITY TELEVISION IS THE SPONSOR OF THE PROMOTION.

To enter, viewers of WHUT-TV and/or WHUT.ORG and listeners of WHUR-FM and/or WHUR.COM (“Promoter/Sponsor”), from within the territory, must log on to the WHUT-TV or WHUR websites (WHUT.ORG/WHUR.COM) to enter.

WHUT-TV is celebrating the extraordinary contributions of Black women serving as caregivers for loved ones. Both paid and unpaid caregivers weather ups and downs of this immensely meaningful work need recognition. WHUT-TV will not only recognize their achievements but also provide a platform for these trailblazers to mentor and guide young aspiring professionals within the field of caregiving (nurses, doctors, physical therapist, medical professionals, early childhood, and SPED educators). By acknowledging and empowering these emerging leaders, we aim to inspire them to continue their courageous efforts in a society that often overlooks their contributions. Winners of the contest will be honored at a reception celebrating the extraordinary contributions of Black women serving as caregivers for loved ones. The event will include a celebratory reception, a fireside chat, and a pinning ceremony with emphasis on "lighting the way" for the mentors while offering an inspirational charge for the mentees.

· Viewers of WHUT-TV/WHUT.ORG, and WHUR-FM/WHUR.COM, are invited to nominate an extraordinary Black woman caregiver who is making a powerful impact in the lives of those they serve, whether that be for a child, a person with disabilities, or an aging adult.

Below are the criteria that the nominators should consider when writing about their nominees. These criteria points may be in a form with additional information requested to collect. Uploading a photo or video is optional.

· Impact of Care: How has the caregiver’s support meaningfully improved the quality of life, health, dignity, or well-being of the person or people in her care? How does this caregiver illuminate a path for others—through wisdom, example, encouragement, or hope?

· Commitment & Consistency: Consider the length of time and level of dedication the caregiver has shown—especially through challenges, transitions, or

long-term needs. Has she found unique, resourceful, or thoughtful ways to address caregiving challenges or improve daily experiences?

· Resilience & Strength: Has she navigated personal, professional, financial, or emotional obstacles while continuing to care for others with grace and persistence?

· Leadership Through Care: In what ways does the caregiver lead by example—advocating for her loved one, guiding others, or modeling courage and responsibility? Has the caregiver inspired, coached, or supported younger generations or emerging caregivers—formally or informally?

Description of the prize: Winning caregivers are recognized at a special reception, hosted by WHUT-TV featuring a fireside chat, networking, and a powerful pinning ceremony on March 31, 2026.
