Event Recap: “Becoming Thurgood” Brunch, Screener & Panel Discussion at WHUT Studios

WHUT Studios on the campus of Howard University recently hosted a powerful afternoon of culture, reflection, and celebration with the “Becoming Thurgood” event. Designed to honor the life and legacy of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice, the event brought together community members, students, and thought leaders for a rich experience of film, music, and dialogue.

Guests were welcomed with a soulful Jazz brunch, featuring a live serenade by TC on Sax, whose smooth melodies set the tone for an afternoon of inspiration and connection.

The centerpiece of the event was an exclusive screening of the documentary “Becoming Thurgood”, a compelling portrait of Marshall’s journey from Baltimore to the Supreme Court. The film explores his groundbreaking legal work and enduring impact on civil rights in America.

Following the screener, attendees engaged in a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Dr. Marcus Board Jr., a respected Political Science professor at Howard University. He was joined by Judge Reggie B. Walton, United States District Judge, whose insights into the judicial system and reflections on Marshall’s legacy added depth and urgency to the conversation. Together, they explored the historical significance of Marshall’s work and its relevance to today’s struggles for justice and equity.
